Mootinie 40 Posted June 22, 2015 For the Penguin Random House Design Award 2015, a competition for students in the United Kingdom. I had the choice of three books: Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit (adult fiction), Freakonomics (non-fiction) or Carrie's War (children's fiction), so I went with the last. Fun book actually, even for a 20 year old. I didn't like the BBC film though, switched it off after twenty minutes. My idea was to communicate Druid's Bottom, a house in the middle of some spooky woods. The general dark tone is because the book is quite serious for a children's novel (just whack Nina Bawden into Wikipedia and you'll probably see why). Anyway, yeah, this was my entry. I'm no Illustrator so I was never going to make some marvelous piece of art but I'm pretty happy with what I put together. You can view the full project here on my Behance. CnC is very much appreciated. Tear into it, be as harsh as you want. Thanks guys. P.S. I highly recommend giving book cover design a go, it's actually really fun, especially when you see it fully mocked up like mine.
Freya 2,561 Posted June 22, 2015 I can't tear into it as I really like it. Love the dark feel of it and I think the kids will too. Good Luck! :'>
 Awards
