Need some member input on updating the site.  The major drawback is the lack of modifications we will have compared to what we have now.  Please comment with your vote.

What kind of modifications would be take out? Also I think you're captcha is down. I remember when I came back I was trying to use password recovery and I couldn't use the captcha.

Given the age of the current version and lack of support from the vendor, some current mods and themes no longer work as they should and the obvious security risks the longer we stay on an outdated platform Security and privacy of members data should always out weigh the functional issues above, functionality can be built on, a stable and secure platform is essential, we add functionality latter?

I agree that the lack of support for the current version and security risks make it harder using an older IPB version.

I think there's a lot of factors that play into the decision:

- Will the board run smoothly without some of the plugins and extensions? Meaning the day to day operations. Things that make PP unique, is it okay not having some of those things on the newer IPB version?

- I've seen some boards lose alot of content after upgrading to the new version, especially with users being mixed up with other users because the database entries guys mixed up. Also things like points got lost from users because of again, mixed up data entries.

My thought is that the newer versions of IPB have a sleeker and more "open" or breathable structure and layout, even though there aren't as many extensions and plugins as the older version, if the forum can get away without some of the plugins, but still have the core ones and the ones that are used the most, then it's worth it because of the security and support.

Just from personal experience, the transfer over to the new version had many errors and bugs (obviously they can be fixed with time, but it's overwhelming lol).

I know I just joined so I don’t have much experience with this site in particular, but I do have experience with IPB backend and front end. The new version might not have as many modifications but they do have better security as stated before and better mobile experience. With mobile becoming a major factor with internet browsing now a days, just something to think about.

All the modification would be removed and then it would just be a matter of finding out if they have been updated to use on the new version.  Probably 99 % of the new mods cost a ton more than what they used to.  Many that were free are now being charged upwards of 100$.  So that's been the major drawback.  The captcha was just updated a few days ago.  Mk and I just realized it wasn't working when some new members contacted us through FaceBook.  Thanks for your input everybody.

I don't think it needs so much of an update because the time that this thread was posted an update was done. The success of the update is questionable some plugins need reformatting and edits need made. Also the forum being on a sub domain with no easy re/direction I find very strange. but im not bitching about it I think a strip back and a redo make it more user friendly with easy access.

About Us

Pimped Pixels was founded in 2010 by Maniak, Asura, Cliffbuck and Evilangel. Shortly afterwards Mikey jumped onboard and joined the team. We are a group of friends with a passion for art and a need to help others by sharing. The site started with just the four and in a short while grew to a community of over 4000 members. Everyone is welcome here, from complete beginners to all out professionals. We have something for everyone. Our aim is to give everyone with the "bug" a place to learn, make friends and share their passion.

Congratulations to iEatB4breakfast for winning this weeks SOTW
